Center Island has continued to experience accelerated erosion after the 2010 Beach Nourishment project. Though South of Center Island was devastated in 2013-4 when 6 homes were lost, that area appears to be more stable at present. The area just north of Center Island Groin has lost significant beach and dune volume in recent years. The USACE 103 project analysis and the DCR Sediment Study both focus on the need for additional beach nourishment.

Southern Blvd often experiences severe flooding after heavy storms, blocking roadways and flooding properties. The Town of Newbury has agreed to form a study group to analyze alternatives.
